KATIE SMART '16 COMPETES IN CALIFORNIA GEOGRAPHIC BEE

Katie Smart '16 recently competed at the State level of the National Geographic Geography Bee at Consumes Junior College in Sacramento.  Of the approximately 100,000 students who took the exam in California, 100 are selected to move onto the state level. Katie was not only in the top 100, she was one of only 10 girls in California, who qualified for the state competition. She also holds the distinction of being the first student from La Reina to qualify for it.

While Katie did not win the state competition, she represented La Reina well and in her group of 20 was the only girl!  According to the event coordinators, this contest was the most competitive in the contest’s history, with many students answering all questions correctly, round after round. The contest was sponsored by the National Geographic Society and the winner travels to Washington D.C. to compete at the national level.  Congratulations Katie!
