CLASS OF 1981 LEADS ALUMNAE DONATIONS!

Congratulations and special thanks to the Class of 1981, currently the leader in alumnae donations for 2011-12.  This ranking is based upon participation for cash donations to any LRHS cause--the Legacy & Promise Annual Fund or any other restricted fund.  Examples of restricted contributions include Mock Trial, the Gina Torrey Scholarship Fund, or a cash sponsorship for a fundraising event.  The highest three classes, to date, are:

Class of 1981 - 17%
Class of 1973 - 12%
Class of 1987 and Class of 1991 - Tied at 6%

SCHOOL PHOTOS - JUNE 4, 5 AND 6

Pictures for next year's yearbook and ID will be taken after final exams this June.  7th and 8th grades will be photographed on Monday, June 4th; 9th and 10th grades will be photographed on Tuesday, June 5th and Juniors and anyone who missed the first two sessions will be photographed on Wednesday, June 6th.  Pictures will be taken from 11:30 a.m - 1:00 p.m. in the Gym.  All students MUST get their picture taken.  Click here for information on ordering photo packages.

SPRING BLOOD DRIVE A SUCCESS!

A great big thank you to everyone who helped to make our Spring Blood Drive a success! The drive was held on Thursday, May 17, 2012.  United Blood Services of Ventura County appreciates the opportunity to replenish the county blood supply with the help of La Reina parents and students. CONGRATULATIONS REAGAN PRESIDENTIAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARS

Congratulations to Rajika Jindani '12 who received a $3,000 scholarship through the 2012 Reagan Presidential Foundation Scholars program.  Other seniors honored at the May 16 awards dinner included:

Lauren E.Hearne, Steffi Chen, Kelly J. Reinke, Katelyn N. Reeves, Bailey M. Martz, Karianna J. Zabaglo, Hailey Quinn Barab and Elizabeth M. Oviedo.

The Reagan Presidential Foundation Scholars Program honors graduating seniors from Ventura County high schools who exemplify outstanding leadership, character, communication skills, academic achievement, and commitment to Ventura County.

CHRISTINE COSTELLO '12 NAMED VENTURA COUNTY STAR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Congratulations to Christine Costello '12, named Athlete of the Week by the Ventura County Star.  Christine helped La Reina clinch the Tri-Valley League title last week with a  victory over Nordhoff.  She allowed just one hit and no walks while striking out 11.  Christine also hit a two-run home run.  Christine has allowed just five hits in her last 18 innings.  Come out and support La Reina Softball at their first CIF game on Thursday at 3:15 p.m. at home.

REGENT RIDERS WIN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP!

Congratulations to the La Reina Equestrian Team!  At Sunday's competition, Regent Riders clinched the League Championship AGAIN, for the 2nd year in a row.  For those who are counting, that makes 13 championships in the last 17 years!

For the year, in the Novice Division, Samantha Vaughan '16 was 10th out of 82 riders, helping La Reina earn a very respectable 3rd place in the division.  The Freshman Team riders came in 2nd place in the division!  Honors go to newcomer Ivey Burns '17 who took home 8th place in the difficult Freshman Medal Class, and finished 4th in the division out of 94 riders. Congratulations also to Katie Brown '15 who was the Freshman Dressage section Reserve Champion. Our Junior Varsity Riders were also 2nd place in their division, with Jessica Gooding '13 finishing 3rd for the year out of 104 riders, and Senior Alice Lockhart taking home the JV Dressage section Reserve Champion title.  Special congratulations to Varsity rider Stacey Bacheller '13.  Stacey won the Varsity Medal Final:  the most difficult and therefore honored class of the year!  Her trainer Jeni Brown also received special recognition as the coach of the Varsity Medal winner.  Stacey's winnings helped her come in 1st place in the Varsity Division for the Season with 178 points!  And if Stacey's riding talents were not enough, she was honored by her peers with the IEL Sportsmanship Award.  A true model of the La Reina standards, Stacey is phenomenal!  We are so very proud of each and every one of you: this year was truly a TEAM effort!  Well done Regent Riders!

SWIMMERS TO COMPETE AT CIF-SS PRELIMS THIS FRIDAY

La Reina will be sending 4 swimmers to CIF-SS Division 2 prelims this Friday in Riverside.  Abby Chopp '15 will be competing in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke, Melissa Yu '14 in the 100 backstroke and our relay team of Melissa Yu '14 (backstroke), Abby Chopp '15 (breaststroke), Bess Grode '13 (butterfly) and Madison Brooks '14 (freestyle) in the 200 Medley Relay.  Go Regents!

LA REINA SOFTBALL WINS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP!

The La Reina Softball Team clinched the Tri-Valley League Championship on May 8th by defeating Nordhoff High 7 - 0.   The Regents are undefeated on the road this season.  CIF starts Thursday, May 17th - please come and support your team!  Great job Regents!

KORRIN ALPERS '13 HONORED FOR EXCELLENT WRITING TALENT

The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) recently honored 274 high school juniors as outstanding writers in the 2012 NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing.  Congratulations to Korrin Alpers '13 for being one of those honored with excellent writing talent! 

A total of 1,107 juniors were nominated by their school to participate in this program.  The Achievement Awards in Writing Program was established in 1957 to encourage high school student in their writing and to recognize publicly some of the best student writers in the nation.

CIRCLE OF FRIENDS MASS - THURSDAY, MAY 10TH

Everyone is invited to the final Circle of Friends Mass for this school year, Thursday, May 10th at 8:15am in the La Reina Chapel.   The morning includes a Mass with a dialogue homily and discussion, concluding with a social breakfast of sweets and coffee.  In respect to our working parents, Circle of Friends normally meets from 8:15-9:15am.  We are blessed to have Fr.
