SPIRIT OF LA REINA AWARDS!


La Reina High School is pleased to announce the "Spirit of La Reina" awards.  Three awards will be given annually to:
  • An alumna
  • Alumnae parent(s)
  • Current parent(s).

These individuals will be recognized for:
  • Their personal values which reflect La Reina's philosophy and spirit, specifically Gospel-living, community and family spirit, loyalty, a global perspective, leadership for justice, integrity, service and responsible citizenship
  • Distinguished service to La Reina, service which has had a profound impact on the entire school community over the years.

This award:

  • Differs from the Distinguished Alumna Award which recognizes an alumna for sharing her talents with the community.
  • Is designed to recognize volunteers, and so current and former staff member are not eligible.
  • Will be presented at the annual Parent Guild Auction, held on the first Saturday in November.

Current parents, alumnae parents, alumnae and staff may make nominations.  Award winners will be determined by the LRHS faculty and staff.

SUMMER ENRICHMENT AT LA REINA !



Priority registration for Summer Enrichment at La Reina ends this Friday, May 10. With priority registration, the registration fee is $50, with $25 for each additionall family member. Registration after May 10 incurs a $75 registration fee, with $50 for each additional family member.

Boys and girls entering grades 4-11 can enjoy an expanded array of enrichment opportunities from academics, visual and performing arts, and sports & fitness. For incoming students, this is a great way to meet new classmates and become familiar with La Reina. For students not attending La Reina this fall, Summer Enrichment is an opportunity to learn some of the secrets that make La Reina students so successful.

CIRCLE OF FRIENDS - MAY 9TH

SARAH EDWARDS '17 RECEIVES AWARD FROM THE NCTE PROMISING YOUNG WRITERS PROGRAM

Congratulations to Sarah Edwards ’17 who received an award of the highest distinction from the 2013 NCTE Promising Young Writers Program.  Schools nominated 211 students to participate in the 2013 program.  Students submitted two pieces of writing which were evaluated by national judges on content, purpose, audience, tone, word choice, organization, development and style.

REGENT RIDERS - 2012-13 OVERALL HIGHPOINT TEAM RESERVE CHAMPIONS!


Congratulations to the La Reina Equestrian Team – IEL Overall Highpoint Team, Reserve Champions 2012-2013!    The Regent Riders were also the Novice Overall Team Champions, The Freshman Overall Team Reserve Champions and the Junior Varsity Overall Reserve Team Champions.  Congratulations also to our Seniors Stacey Bacheller and Emily Goldberg on earning IEL scholarships, 2 of only 5 total seniors from all 73 participating schools to do so!!!

COUNTY SCIENCE FAIR AWARDS!

Congratulations to the following students who did a great job at the County Science Fair:

Sarah Edwards '17 received $50 from the American Petroleum Institute and earned 1st place in Physics.  Alanna Hurd '17 received Honorable Mention in Math, Computers and Electronics and received $100 from the American Petroleum Institute.  Parker Ornellas '17  earned 1st place in Animal Behavioral Science.  Grace Resnik '17 earned 1st place in Human Biology.  Alexandra Cerny '17 received Honorable Mention in Microbiology. Deanna Rice '17 received Honorable Mention in Product Science. Isabella Bonvino '17 earned 3rd place in Zoology.

Sarah Edwards, Grace Resnick and Parker Ornellas will be taking their projects to the State Science Fair next Tuesday.   Congratulations and good luck!

AFTER THE AUCTION SURVEY

The Parent Guild Auctions are a long tradition at La Reina High School and the 29th Annual Parent Guild Auction in 2012 was a big success.  We truly appreciate the participation of our parents, alumnae and members of the community.  We are in the process of planning our 30th Annual Parent Guild Auction which will take place November 2, 2013. 

In order to make our 30th the best ever, we would love your feedback on this 12 question survey.  Please respond by April 30th; this survey should take 3 minutes or less.  We appreciate your time and support of the students!

COMMUNITY JUDGES NEEDED FOR SPEECH AND DEBATE!


The California High School Speech Association is holding it's State Tournament April 19-21st at West Ranch High School in Stevenson Ranch, located in the Santa Clarita valley.

Our local league, the Tri-Valley Forensics League, is hosting this years state tournament.  There is a desperate need for community judges.  Our league is asking for teachers, parents, coaches to sign up.  Judges will not be paid, however they will be fed!  No prior experience is necessary.  Please consider signing up to be a community judge!

CALLING ALL GOLFERS!


The La Reina Athletic Booster Club is holding its 9th annual golf tournament on Thursday, May 2nd at the Moorpark Country Club.  Check in time starts at 9:30 am with tee off at 11:45.  The cost is $200.00 dollars per golfer and all proceeds go to fund La Reina Athletics!

The Booster Club would like to encourage La Reina parents to enjoy a fun day of golf, food, raffle prizes and camaraderie.  Tournament festivities include a buffet lunch, a silent auction, 15 minute massages, golf contests, pizza and much more!

LA REINA LACROSSE!

The La Reina Lacrosse team is official!  The first practice took place last Sunday at school, and was well and enthusiastically attended! The team is starting on basic skills training, so no prior experience is required. As some of you may know, Lacrosse is the fastest growing girl's sport in the United States, and is a fast paced, exciting game.  Everyone is welcome to come and try it out!

WHO:  Open to all interested girls from 7th – 12th grade.

WHAT: 6 two hour practices, taught by the area's top women's Lacrosse coach.  Girls will learn the sport's fundamentals and get a chance to scrimmage each other.

WHEN: The following Sunday afternoons from 3 – 5pm : March 10th, 17th, 24th  April 14th, 28th and May 5th.

WHERE:  La Reina Softball field to start and possible fields in Conejo Valley.

COST  $75 to cover field and coaching expense for all practices.  Fee will be billed through TADS.  Girls will need to provide goggles, mouthguard and a lacrosse stick.  All can be purchased locally for under $100.  (Note:  Stacy Lee has some beginner sticks that can be loaned out) 

WHY: To introduce girls to this fast growing and exciting sport.  Our objective is to lay the foundation for a 2013 – 14 Varsity team.

As the Regents' 2013 Mock Trial Team prepare for the state tournament next weekend, we are creating an important list.  All alumnae who were members of an LRHS Mock Trial Team and who are now attorneys (or preparing to be attorneys) are asked to contact Sr. Lisa Megaffin by email.  This is the information we are seeking:  name, graduation year, undergraduate degree and college, law school, current employer and title.  Thanks for your help and please cheer on your fellow Regents as they go to state as the defending champions!

Regents Capture Ventura County Mock Trial Championship

After four nights of intense trials, the La Reina Regents were named champions of the 2013 Ventura County Mock Trial competition.  This marks the 18th county title for the Regents since 1990.

Ryanne Bamieh '14 also earned a first place award as Pretrial Attorney for the Prosecution, while Lena Melillo '13 was voted Most Valuable Player for La Reina by other teams.

The Regents now advance--as defending champions--to the California State Competition in late March.

KATRIONA JACKSON '13 SIGNS NCAA LETTER OF INTENT!

Katriona Jackson '13 has signed her NCAA letter of intent to play field hockey for UC Davis.  Katriona was recruited by three other Division 1 NCAA programs, but felt that UC Davis was the best fit for her  She verbally committed in the summer of 2012, and was happy to sign her national letter of intent this February.  Congratulations Katriona!

Please join us!  La Reina High School welcomes your participation in our “College Planning Night” to be held Wednesday, February 20, 2013.  The evening, for parents and students, has been designed for grade levels 7 through 11.  Attendees will choose three workshops from a wide variety of offerings.  College Planning Night is a great opportunity to gain insight, knowledge, and skills to help with the college planning process.  It’s never too early to start thinking about college!

SPRING MUSICAL - INTO THE WOODS


Into The Woods, Jr., is a musical based on classic fairy tales Rated G

The Brothers Grimm "go Broadway" as Sondheim and Lapine offer up a cockeyed fairy tale where all of your favorite characters—Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and The Witch—meet and interact on their journeys.   In a funny and engaging way this show gets people thinking about the stories with which they've grown up and the ethical issues raised therein. 

Audience children will be invited to participate in three pre-show scenes (Snow White, Hansel & Gretel and Sleeping Beauty) beginning at 2:20 p.m.  Into The Woods, Jr. begins at 2:30 p.m.

ROBOTICS ADVANCES TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Congratulations to 8th graders Deanna Rice and Michaela Crispin for their outstanding effort at Pierce College robotics competition on Saturday.  As well as being Tournament Finalists, they received the Amaze Award for their high scoring, robustly designed robot.  They are now eligible to compete in the State Championships at Santa Clara on March 15th.  Great job Regents!

COLLEGE PLANNING NIGHT
