Congratulations to Katie Smart '16, the first La Reina student to qualify for the state level competition of the National Geographic Bee. Katie qualified to be one of California's top 100 students to compete in Sacramento out of 100,000 students who tried out through 2000 California schools earlier this year. The California Geography Bee has the largest number of contestants in all 50 states, making California's top 100 the most competitive nationwide. Katie will travel to Sacramento on March 30th to compete for the state title. The state winner moves on to the national contest in Washington, D.C., in May, where the top prize is a $25,000 scholarship. Last year, 53 out of 54 of the national contestants were boys, so we are very proud of our La Reina girl!
